About me

I am a contemporary feminist artist. My art practice orientates around the feminine, whether that be painting expressionist nudes of women or depicting them in portraits. The mediums I use are paint (specifically acrylic) and textiles, I look closely at societal and political issues that women face such as gender stereotypes and the sexualisation of women in the media. I use my art to communicate feminist problems in hope of creating change.

Studying fine art has enabled me to experiment and refine my art practice, I also co-curated a feminist art exhibition that was featured in the Lancashire Post. For Love of (Im)possibilities: Women Daring to Defy the System featured 21 global artists who were like minded women wanting to use their creative skills to generate change through their art.

I am exhibiting three self-portraits painted in acrylic onto handmade canvases, titled Self-Conscious Confectionary. My concept is the unattainable standards society expects of women, it demands women appear, behave and eat a certain way/amount. I am opposing that in this project. Having never painted myself before I struggled examining my features, identifying my “flaws” and why they are classed as such almost making me a part of the problem. I’ve learnt an important lesson from this project, I am my own biggest critic and I have been indoctrinated through social media as to what is beautiful and what is not.
